BERNADETTE SHORT came to Montreal from her native Dublin in early 1974 and soon became involved in teaching the Irish step dances she had learned while growing up. Bernadette is certified by the Irish Dance Commission based in Dublin, Ireland (An Coimisiun le rinci Gaelacha) as both a teacher (T.C.R.G.) and adjudicator (A.D.C.R.G.) With the release of the world-popular shows such as Riverdance and Lord of the Dance, Irish dance is no longer an extracurricular activity for children and grandchildren of Irish immigrants but rather a more mainstream activity for people of ALL backgrounds. Bernadette and her team of teachers work hard to keep Irish dance an important part of the community
Bernadette Short School of Irish Dance has had great success in competitive Irish dance, with over 100 dancers competing in the Eastern Canadian Championships producing winners in both solo and team events. They have also enjoyed success at the North American Championships, All Scotland Championships, All Ireland Championships and the World Championships, with several medals in solo events and a bronze medal in the Senior Mixed ceili event in 2012. Irish dance is a big part of the community and dancers from the Short School love to perform at community events all year long and especially around St Patrick’s Day when they perform at many hospitals, seniors’ residences, and schools. click on logo to visit blog |
The Centre for Education and Theatre in Montreal (CETM) believes that the best way to have a vibrant local cultural scene is to create one. In other words, this means helping the producers and performing artists of tomorrow to develop the tools they need to be truly successful out in the workplace.
