Set at the beginning of WW 1, Danny Boy, takes place in County Derry. Midst a town full of colorful characters, we meet Daniel Gallagher who, despite his mother’s insistence he find himself a sweetheart at the highly anticipated annual matchmaking festival, is not interested in love. The young man is focused on fulfilling his duties, caring for his mother and sisters and soon, to join the troops of the Irish Regiment where he hopes he’ll find his brother believed to be missing in action “over there” where the Great War is unfolding across the sea.
On the eve of the festival, we meet Molly Murphy, a young woman raised in Montreal, who returns to Ireland at the request of her great-aunt Aoife, the county matchmaker, to nurture her healing talents and reconnect with her heritage. Molly considers the trip a thrilling first step on her journey to discovering her place in the world, until she realizes she's arrived in Derry on the eve of the matchmaking festival, and her modern-minded ideals are put to the test, especially after meeting the charming Daniel Gallagher.
Danny Boy brings to life the world’s most popular and beloved Irish ballad, by bringing together elements that have endeared the world to the Irish people and their vibrant culture for centuries. Through music, dance, humour, memorable characters and a light sprinkling of fairy dust, Danny Boy’s love story bridges the gap between Ireland and Canada during an era when folklore and traditions were like rays of hope in the shadow of dark times.
